Mental health evaluation ordered for 26-year-old man accused of stabbing spree (2024)

A mental health evaluation for 26-year-old Martha’s Vineyard resident Jared Ravizza was ordered in Plymouth District Court on Tuesday, according to the Plymouth District Court Clerk’s office.

He was arraigned in connection to a Saturday stabbing at a Plymouth McDonald’s which was only one of three stabbings he is accused of in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Ravizza is facing charges of assault with intent to murder, indecent exposure and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the Plymouth stabbing.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s office said Ravizza stabbed a 21-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man at the McDonald’s at the Route 3 Park and Ride in Plymouth. A man and woman were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said previously.

“The female victim’s stab wound was approximately five centimeters deep, and she also had wounds to her in her left bicep and left underarm,” a prosecutor said in court on Tuesday, WCVB reported.

The McDonald’s stabbing happened shortly before 7 p.m., and the victims were employees, according to the district attorney’s office. Video footage of the incident shows Ravizza stabbing the male employee through the drive-thru window before parking the vehicle he drove, going inside the restaurant to stab the female employee, and then fleeing in the vehicle.

Ravizza was accused of publicly urinating in the drive-thru, according to the police report.

Ravizza was in police custody and being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth as of Sunday afternoon, the district attorney’s office said.

Ravizza is also being investigated as a suspect in a Saturday evening stabbing at a movie theater in Braintree in which four girls — aged 9 to 17 — were stabbed, according to The Boston Globe.

Quincy District Court Clerk’s office said Ravizza is facing four counts of assault with intent to murder and four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The clerk’s office said there isn’t a court date scheduled for Ravizza.

Around 6 p.m., a man came into AMC’s Braintree location and went past the ticket counter without paying, Braintree police said previously. He then entered one of the theaters and suddenly stabbed the girls without saying anything or issuing a warning. The suspect fled in a vehicle, and the girls were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ravizza’s vehicle was spotted on Cape Cod soon after the Plymouth stabbing, Massachusetts State Police said previously. He soon crashed in Sandwich and was arrested.

McDonald’s issued a statement on the Plymouth stabbing to MassLive Monday night.

“We are shocked and devastated by this senseless act of violence. The safety of our crew and customers is always our top priority. We are grateful to law enforcement for their quick response in protecting our Cape Cod communities and will continue to assist them in their investigation,” the restaurant chain said.

Authorities in Connecticut reported a death investigation Saturday afternoon involving a suspect arrested by Massachusetts State Police later in the day.

Ravizza is also being investigated in connection to the Saturday death of 70-year-old Bruce Feldman of Deep River, Connecticut, according to Connecticut State Police.

Troopers responded to the home around 3:35 p.m. on Saturday for a report of a disturbance, Connecticut State Police said.

WCVB reported that this isn’t the first encounter Ravizza has had with the police.

In April, he was accused of assaulting his father and arrested on Martha’s Vineyard, the media outlet reported.

He faced charges of assault and battery and destruction of property and entered a diversion program after mental health professionals determined he couldn’t be involuntarily held, the station reported.

The charges would’ve been dismissed in November for good behavior, the media outlet reported.

Police reported Ravizza to be intoxicated and frothing at the mouth, WCVB reported.
