Biography

Richard Whitehurst (1636-1715) married 1) Margaret Nichols and 2) Mary Batson. Richard's brother, John Whitehurst (1645-1674) married Mary Nicholas.

Researchers Notes

This Richard Whitehurst family is difficult to sort out--which children were by which wife, dates of birth/death, etc.--due to a variety of conflicting sources. It would be a good idea to recheck data every year or so until something really definitive is published. --Robert B. Nichol, 2007

Richard Whitehurst (abt.1636-1704) | WikiTree FREE Family Tree (16) Evelyn Sherr

My mother, Myra Whitehurst Brown, gave me a Whitehurst 'Heirs Booklet' complied by James M. Whitehurst in Atlanta Georgia some years ago.

In the booklet was this information, which corroborates the Quaker link:WHITEHURST, RICHARD. Born circa 1640 in Princess Anne Co. VA. Died circa 1705. Richard and William Whitehurst, sons of Richard Sr., were Quakers and were fined several times for attending Quaker meetings. Queen Anne granted religious freedom in 1703, which eliminated the necessity for the Quakers holding secret meetings and for the fines, which were paid in tobacco. Much information about the Whitehurst family is contained in the Colonial Vestry Book of Lynnhaven Parish, Princess Anne County, VA.

The Booklet also stated that this Richard Whitehurst married Margaret Nicholas.
